“My 14 year old daughter says she isn’t interested in reading anymore as most of the books are boring or lovey dovey and she doesn’t want romance books.  Any ideas to help me out with some good suggestions for her?”

That’s tricky, because there are so many good books that she might like, kids, adult and teen:  How about some manga or comics – like:

  • NIMONA by Noelle Stevenson
  • The Graveyard Book Graphic Novel by Neil Gaiman
  • Assassination Classroom by Yusei Matsui
  • My Hero Academia by Kouhei Horikoshi

Or some wonderful novels:

  • Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
  • The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud
  • Sabriel by Garth Nix
  • Cirque Du Freak (The Saga of Darren Shan Book 1) by Darren Shan
  • Gail Carriger Finishing School Series
  • The Darkest Minds: Book 1 (A Darkest Minds Novel) by Alexandra Bracken
  • Before I die by Jenny Donovan

Comic Take Over of Falkirk Library – a podcast extra

Hi Folks, we hope you love this podcast as much as we enjoyed making it.  On Saturday 25th November 2017 we held a Comic Take Over of Falkirk Library.

There was a photobooth on the ground floor where you could get your photo taken and put on a background of your choice with the magic of greenscreen technology.

On the first floor we had lego, quizzes and games for the kids.

Finally, on the second floor we had a comic mart with books, comics, artwork, t shirts and badges all for sale from a wide range of friendly knowledgeable comic folk.  Plus we had a special podcast recorded with Sha Nazir (BHP Comics), Clare Forrest (illustrator and the creator of the excellent The Mighty Women of Science) and David Bishop ( one time editor of the Judge Dredd Megazine and The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic 2000 AD, as well as the author of comics, books and screenplays).

This special podcast recording was taken at our Comic TOF and features Sha, Clare and David as they chat about their life in comics, their inspiration and work, and what their favourite meal is.  With a dropped sword and a visit by the Ice King to liven things up – ENJOY (‘cos we certainly did)

Around 1000 people came to our Comic Takeover of Falkirk Library on Saturday 25th November. Creator panels, Comic Kids area, Big Quiz, Green Screen Photo Booth and loads of hugely talented artists, crafters and writers sharing their work on our stalls.

A packed day included our Big Geek Quiz. Our winners claimed a tidy haul of Image Comics. Thanks to Image for sending that big box of goodies across the pond!

Our Green Screen photo booth was huge hit! We dropped visitors into the photo background of their choice, so some boldly went into space, while others stopped at The Shire for second breakfast!

Look at our cute cosplayers! All hail Adventure Time’s Ice King, our costume competition winner!

Our comic kids area was busy all day with Lego and superhero design. We didn’t specify height, so we did get some big kids joining in on the action.
