Writing Rammy – Competition Rules
The Writing Rammy will be organised and administered by Falkirk Community Trust (Libraries). Entry will be in one of four categories
- Junior 12 and under
- Teen 13 -17
- 18+
- Best Family Entry*
Entrants must write a piece of short fiction or poetry and be close to, but no more, than 250 words for under 12’s and up to 500 words for 13 and over. Only one entry per person may be submitted.
Entries should ideally be word processed and sent via email attachment to writingrammy@falkirkcommunitytrust.org by midnight on Thursday 31st October.
Submissions should be in English or Scots, in pdf or Microsoft Word format, 12 pt, double spaced. The title of the work should be in the header on every page and the word count should be marked clearly at the end of the story.
Alternatively word processed or hand written entries can be handed into any Falkirk Community Trust library up to 8pm on Thursday 31st October.
Submissions received after this time will not be considered. Entries will not be returned so please remember to keep a copy. Unsuccessful entrants will be notified but we cannot provide individual feedback.
All entries should include contact details for the entrant, name, email, school (if applicable) and telephone number at the bottom of the entry, so it can be easily covered for impartial judging.
All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The Organisers accept no liability if entrants ignore these rules and entrants agree to fully indemnify the Organisers against any claims by any third party arising from any breach of these rules.
Entries must not contain defamatory, obscene, offensive or any other unsuitable material nor contain anything else which is calculated to bring the Organisers into disrepute.
Entrants retain the copyright in their entries but grant Falkirk Community Trust a non-exclusive licence to use their entry for publication on the Falkirk Community Trust website as well as for any promotional purpose.
The Organisers will only ever use personal details for the purposes of administering this competition. We ask for personal details such as names to help us identify winners and will delete personal information within 12 months of each competition end.
By entering the competition, entrants warrant that they have legal capacity to enter the competition and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
Entrants under the age of 18 should check with a parent, guardian or teacher before entering the competition, particularly if a child’s entry is being submitted using a parent or guardians email address.
Entries will be judged by a team of library staff from Falkirk Community Trust. Selection of entries will be impartial and fair. The selection panel will not know the identity of the entries that they are considering. The decision of the selection panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into about the selection process.
The winners will be contacted by a member of Falkirk Community Trust within a six week period after the competition has closed. If the winner cannot be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made to do so, the Organisers reserve the right to offer the prize to the next best entry.
The winner and runner up selected from each category will be invited to receive a prize at a special Readers and Writers celebration in October.
The Organisers reserve the right to amend these Terms and Conditions or cancel this competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside its control. In this event, a notice will be posted on the Falkirk Community Trust website.
These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Scotland.
*Definition of family for this competition means at least one adult and at least one other aged 17 years or under.
