Canal Scene Craft Instructions

Jan has created a craft activity to accompany the stories she has written for Falkirk Libraries

Things you will need

You will need:

  • Glue: Pritt-stick or similar works well
  • 4/6 sheets of White A4 thin card that will go through a printer or you can print on paper and glue to a cereal packet
  • Felt pens or crayons, if you use Sharpies or Highlighter pens do be sure to protect the table
  • Craft Scissors – ask an adult to help you cut out the templates
  • Some paper straws
  • Some string

Instructions:

  • Print out all the A4 templates onto thin white card or if you use paper then glue to a cereal packet or similar

  • The canal tunnel templates include a background a foreground and side braces

  • Cut out the centre of the foreground canal tunnel template –

  • Draw some beasts or junk in the bottom of the canal on the  background
  • Cut out the side braces fold tabs and glue them between the foreground and background – with riders facing inwards you can use paper clips to hold whilst glue dries
Side bar
  • Make holes in border of foreground and background for straws (to hang flying objects from)
  • Cut out story template objects and fold tabs on the dotted lines (film edges) to make them stand up or hang them up
Templates from the stories
  • Draw and cut our your own objects and make up a story
  • Place your haunted canal tunnel scene on an A4 sheet of white card and add, recycled junk like plastic bottle tops
