Adieu, Anna!

Anna Herron, Falkirk Libraries boss, has packed her bags, passed on her mallet and tape measure (yes, these are all things library managers need, apparently) and headed off into the sunset.

Retiring after 30 years with the Falkirk Library Service, Anna is pursuing her passion for travel and is heading off to visit Scotland, Ireland, Spain and her beloved France (Anna speaks fluent French).

Anna has steered the library service through lots of changes, including the opening of four new libraries (Bonnybridge, Denny, Larbert and Meadowbank), but hasn’t missed the chance to have some fun along the way.

We sent her off with a small staff gathering at Falkirk Library, where she has mainly been based during her career. Several of the librarians met for our first (socially-distanced) meeting in 15 months at Bo’ness Library, where we gathered some “mementoes” from Anna’s office and had a chuckle at some of the stories behind them. Hub Librarian Vikki Ring, who will be temporarily filing in for Anna, is now the proud owner of some of these items!

We’ll no doubt see Anna very soon, not least when she returns to Falkirk Library to apply for her bus pass!

Happy trails, Anna!

It’s big news that Anna is retiring, the Falkirk Herald even stopped by to get her story. You can read more here: https://www.falkirkherald.co.uk/news/people/leader-of-falkirk-area-libraries-retires-to-pursue-passion-for-travelling-3352291
