Bees by Violet Beattie, age 11

Winner in the Writing Rammy Junior poetry category

You might think bees are scary, but really they are not

And I am going to tell you why I like them a lot!

Bees are very clever and they all live in a hive

They are busy little creatures and I’m glad that they’re alive.

You don’t want to touch them though, because well, if you do

They will buzz and fly around and then they might sting you

But really that’s not their fault, you shouldn’t run and scream

It gives the bees an awful fright and really is quite mean.

I think bees are brilliant, they are really really good

They fly to all the flowers and they pollinate our food

Another thing that bees do well is make the lovely honey

To spread on toast and porridge it is yummy in my tummy!

So next time that you see a bee don’t let it spoil your day

Remember the wonderful things they do and let it fly away!
